Oftentimes when one researches a video splitter or HDMI splitter purchase the product description pages that pop-up are full of technical jargon and audio/video production in-house language that may sound inane or are simply incomprehensible to the uninitiated.

While there are thousands of terms that exist, listing them all is beyond the scope of this article. Thus, if you’re searching for audio/video equipment such as an HDMI or video splitter, our glossary will cover some of the most important terms so that you can make an educated purchasing decision.

AES/EBU

A digital audio standard established by the Audio Engineering Society and the European Broadcasting Union.
The basic sampling resolution is 20 bit, 44.1 kHz is the most common. All HDMI splitters should support this standard.

Audio Bandwidth

The range of audio frequencies over which an amplifier or receiver will respond and provide useful output. A good HDMI splitter will carry the full range of audio bandwidth.

Audio-follow-video Switcher

Sometimes, during the switching or processing of signals, the audio signal is separated from the video signal. In such a case, each signal must be processed, mixed and enhanced separately. This scenario may arise when utilizing an HDMI or video splitter.

Audio Noise

A hiss (random high frequency noise) or a hum (low frequency noise from the power-line frequency and its harmonics or ground loops) heard on audio/video equipment. High quality HDMI splitters do not generate noise.

CAT 5/CAT 6

Category 5 cable is an unshielded twisted pair type cable typically used for Ethernet capability. It supports up to 100Mbit/s at 100Mhz. Category 6 cable supports 1Gbit/s at 250mhz. Typically compatible with most HDMI and video splitter technology.

Composite Audio

A standard analog audio which utilizes RCA jacks for interconnection of components. Predates HDMI splitters. Some video splitters run first generation video in close proximity to longer distance component cables.

Decibel (dB)

A unit of measurement expressing ratios using logarithmic scales. Usually used as a measurement of audio volume. High quality HDMI splitters will minimize dB drop.

Dolby (noise reduction)

A technique developed by Dolby(tm) which improves the signal-to-noise ratio by compression and expansion. Great HDMI splitters transfer Dolby-related technologies faithfully.

DTS

Digital Theater Systems sound. The DTV standard. High quality HDMI and video splitters are systems capable with DTS. If running a video splitter, a separate audio channel is required.

Equalize

To adjust the tonal quality of an audio clip. As with graphic equalizers found in home or auto audio equipment, an equalize effect can boost or cut the original signal at different frequency bands. Good HDMI splitters reproduce faithful equalization of the original signal. Video splitters must be faithful to color equalization.

EDID

Extended Display Identification Data. A data structure that provided by digital displays to describe capabilities to a video source. Includes name, serial, type, and other monitor data.

ESD Protection

Electrostatic Discharge Protection. Describes a design feature that mitigates electrical power fluctuations that may cause costly damage to electronics and components. A quality HDMI or video splitter will have this capability.

HDCP

High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. Supports HDTV signals over DVI, HDMI, and D-VHS and prevents copyright protection. Compatible with any HDMI splitter.

HDMI 1.3c

High-Definition Multimedia Interface. A digital audio/video connector. 1.3c released June 2006, with single-link bandwidth of 10.2 Gbits/second. Compatible with any HDMI splitter.

HZ

Hertz. A measurement used for audio sampling rate, as in the number of audio samples per second. High quality HDMI and video splitters need to handle a minimum refresh rate.

LCRS

Denotes an audio system that has 4 full range channels (Left, Center, Right, Surround).

MADI

Multichannel Audio Digital Interface, also known as AES-10 standard.

Sample Rate

The rate at which samples of a continuous signal, such as music or a sound, are captured into a digital representation of the original signal. High quality HDMI and video splitters ensure the best transfer of greater sample rates.

Video Splitter/HDMI Splitter

An HDMI or video splitter’s purpose is to take an input signal and electronically split it into two outputs. Powered video splitters work best.

For the past decade, Avenview has established itself as a quality manufacturer of leading edge Audio/Video products such as the fiber optic HDMI extender and the HDMI switch.

Three Dimensional TV is now here, Big Time. With the recent addition of Sky 3D in the Europe in October 2010 and Discovery Communications, Imax and Sony planning to launch 3D broadcast in the States early 2011; sales of 3D TVs and 3D TV Glasses are climbing rapidly. Sony is poised to release PS3 system software update v3.50, which will add support for 3D Blu-ray disc playback on its PlayStation 3 games console. 3D games are already available and new titles cannot hit the shelves quick enough. Over six different brands produce an array of 3D Blu-Ray players and 3D TVs with prices coming down all the time.

When it comes to 3D TV, seeing is most definitely believing, however, what do you need to enjoy 3D viewing in your home?

A 3D TV is a given requirement, as is also a pair of quality, robust 3D TV Glasses for each member of the family. If you are based in Europe and want to watch 3D television, you will currently need a subscription to Sky. If you already have a Sky HD box it will also be enabled for 3D. You may also want a 3D Blu-Ray player, so you can watch those heart pounding blockbuster movies in the comfort of your own home. Maybe you already have access to a PlayStation 3 gaming console; this will very soon allow you to play 3D Blu-Ray discs on that and of cause not forgetting the amazing 3D games as well. Note, all 3D Televisions are also excellent for viewing standard 2D and HD..

Hi quality, three-dimensional TV Glasses are a necessity, so that when you view the images on your screen the illusion of three dimensions is created for you, without the glasses the screen will show two images of the same picture slightly apart from one another therefore unpleasant to watch. The glasses are known as “Active Shutter Glasses”; they contain a small lightweight battery which allows Wi-Fi communication between your 3D TV and your 3D TV Glasses. Some brands supply one or maybe two pairs of adult sized glasses when you purchase your 3D TV. Active Shutter Glasses are quite expensive so you are advised to look after them carefully and put them back in their protective case when not in use. Having said this at some moment in time you may need a higher quality new pair, you may need a replacement pair or to purchase additional pairs of 3D TV Glasses for your family members or friends.

You can save time and money by purchasing Glasses for 3D TV on-line. A television dealer will tend to sell them at list price to cover their overhead costs, as opposed to an on-line merchant who can always pass on the savings to you, the consumer. Like the 3D TV brands, currently there are similar numbers of these manufacturers making 3D TV Glasses, however more are appearing on the market all the time. It is important to note that if you need replacements or additional pairs, you need to choose them from the same brand of your 3D TV. At this time, there is no universal standard for communication between 3D TV and 3D TV glasses, each manufacturer does it their individual way.

The subwoofer speakers on your sound system are designed to produce low pitched sounds. With a subwoofer, you can be sure that you’ll experience all the low pitched sounds in a game, song or movie. If you have a system with a subwoofer as part of a surround sound setup, then you should expect a full theatre experience when you watch movies on it.

If, you’re favourite genre of movie is horror films for example and you purchase and/or download a horror movie to your computer. If you’ve purchased a highly quality sound setup with a subwoofer, then you should expect to hear the small creaks that are made while a character walks down the stairs, which would naturally add to dynamism of the scene.

Obviously, no one is silly enough to out and purchase a subwoofer by itself. It’s important that anyone interested in purchasing a subwoofer, buys it as a part of a surround sound bundle.

It’s also important that before you go out and purchase your surround sound speaker setup, you evaluate the size of the room that you intend to have your system in. If your living room or bedroom is fairly small, then an Altec Lansing BXR1221 system should suit you nicely. However, if the size of the room that you intend to watch and play music in is fairly large, then the Logitech Z2300 will best suit you.

You should also consider amplifiers when you purchase your subwoofer system. Active units are self powered, this means that they come with their own amplifiers; which is something that you should definitely consider before buying.

Uchenna Ani-Okoye has been writing articles online for nearly 3 years now.

Are you looking for the ultimate movie experience for your home? Then you need to purchase a projector HDTV. Having the latest style of projector can lead to a high-quality product that delivers exceptional images.

Replicating the Movie Theater Experience

In order to replicate the images, sounds and feelings of a real movie theater, you will need to set up an area in your home that has some essential items.

• You will want to choose a quiet room in your home that can be easily darkened when you are ready to watch television. This location can be a room with a door or an area in a finished basement. Having few windows is ideal so that light does not infiltrate the room.

• You will need to purchase the right equipment, which consists of a projector HD TV, surround sound system and perhaps some movie theater paraphernalia for a more authentic feel.

Choosing the perfect video projector TV requires you to do some online research in order to find a model that fits your needs. Some of the features that you will want to consider during the decision-making process include the viewing distance required, lumens, contrast ratio, bulb life, cost and customer reviews.

Buying a home theater package for your surround sound is often times the best solution. You can get the speakers, receiver, iPod dock, DVD player and more — all for one low price. This allows you to be well on your way to having the ultimate movie experience.

You can complete your movie theater setting by acquiring framed movie posters, memorabilia, home theater seating, popcorn machine and bar area. Your home theater projector TV room will provide you with endless hours of entertainment.

Enjoying your Projector HD TV

Once you have everything set up, you will be able to purchase DVD’s, download movies to stream on your projector, view pictures on a home server or watch television programs from your cable or satellite box. You will find it easy to multi-task when you have a video projector TV.

You can invite friends and family to partake in the festivities. When guests are visiting you from out of town, you will be able to offer them one of a kind television viewing. You will also save money on the purchase of movie theater tickets. Having a home theater projector TV provides several benefits that make the purchase a wise investment.

- Dave

The television market continually changes. This year has brought the release of the first 3D televisions on sale. This is shortly after the release of LED technology for televisions. Before discussing the available LED TV bracket and LED TV wall bracket choices one must first understand the LED television. What is it and what makes it different from your typical LCD television?

LED is a type of light which has been around for several years. The light bulb has a longer life than your typical light. The first thing we saw light emitting diodes with was Christmas lights. Samsung, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, LG, ProScan, and Vizio have all decided to offer LED TVs. The technology has replaced the traditional fluorescent light found in LCD televisions. LEDs have two forms: a Dynamic RGB and a White Edge LED. The RGB method provides truer colours like black, white and primary colours. It has a higher dynamic and costs less. The Edge LEDs have a diffused light across the entire screen sharpening the backlight, but also causing a dimming of the picture.

As you might have guessed by now the LED technology is nothing new. The use in televisions was new and it rose in popularity rather quickly. The reason they became so popular was because most understood the LED light would last longer than fluorescent light for the backlighting. They figured it was better technology and therefore worthy of spending a little more. The downside in the popularity of LCD televisions is that the off angle viewing is poor. Even offering LED with the LCD technology has not changed this. However, LCD is still better than the plasma design because it is based off of light rather than a plasma creation which has a half life.

At the moment the LED technology has not quite reached its potential, but for those who follow the electronic industry this has not made them less popular. In 2010 more models have been released in small screen sizes. LG has over four models you can purchase as do many of the aforementioned producers of LED technology.

Now that you have an understanding of what LED televisions are and that they are being sought by the public you can look at the LED TV bracket and LED TV wall bracket available for these televisions. As a flat panel screen this TV can be tipped over and damaged if it is not correctly mounted to a wall with the TV bracket.

LED TVs are not unlike the regular LCD with fluorescent light. You can use similar TV brackets with the LED television. However, it is best to shop for an LED TV bracket or LED TV wall bracket. The reason for this is that you have the right size. You always want to have the proper bracket no matter the television you own. Therefore, you can look at the two choices you have. You have the TV bracket which is standard in how it works. It will mount your television safely to the wall or TV stand you have chosen. It will not have a lot of manoeuvrability when it comes to the tilt or swivel. It is mostly a steady wall mount for direct angles.

The second choice you have is the ultra slim bracket. The ultra slim bracket comes in two ranges: 26 to 32 inches and 37 to 65 inches. They were created for this range because up until 2010 small sized LED TVs were not being manufactured. Now you have some companies offering below 30 inches.

The ultra slim bracket is not like your typical LCD television bracket. It offers four screws for the smaller size screens, but it is in a horizontal position rather than a square. There are two silver brackets for screws and then two black brackets. You can manipulate the size a little bit on the ultra slim bracket. It is not a huge metal bracket, which makes it lighter and to some degree easier to install.

For those who require an LED TV bracket the ultra slim can be the most attractive. It will be a little more than the regular LED TV bracket which is designed like most LCD brackets. The good attribute of LED TV bracket options like the ultra slim is that it can make the TV almost flush with the wall like a picture frame.

Visit TV Wall Brackets the Original TV Brackets company.

Someone coming back from the not so distant past into today’s world would be awestruck at what they observe in terms of home entertainment systems and in particular the 46 inch television. It really wasn’t ancient history, when people would strain to watch their 12 inch screen Dumont or Philco all the while struggling with a pair of rabbit ear antennas attempting to put anything into some sort of focus. They probably could never have even imagined what is readily available today.

The 46 inch television equipped with the 1080p resolution which literally brings the characters and scenery to life for the viewer and incorporates them into the process themselves is truly a modern marvel. These sets give people the sense they can reach out and touch the person they are watching. It is an amazing experience and it is difficult to comprehend that all the leading manufacturers such as Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Samsonite and many others are already talking about the next step that may be developed in the future that will even improve upon the 1080p resolution that today is the trendsetter. It is difficult to even imagine what could be developed to improve on something that almost seems to be perfect.

The next consideration undertaken when the decision is made to purchase this marvel, is where in the home it will be placed, and how to best set up the furniture to maximize the pleasure it will bring. This is an important step to be carefully thought out, because you want to allow the product to do its best work and offer its greatest results, and some extra thought will make certain that happens. Newer models are even more solid and lightweight so mounting on the wall is even easier then ever to accomplish. Or if the decision is made to use a stand to showcase the unit, there are some outstanding and attractive choices available today and at fairly reasonable prices.

People actually report today that the planning involved and the actual shopping itself for this item has proven a fun experience that the whole family can participate in. When the actual search takes one to the store where they can visually compare the various models and brands, they can also have all the additional features that come with the unit explained and itemized. It comes down to a personal choice at the end of the process by the final decision maker, but the reality is that advances across the whole spectrum pretty well assures a successful outcome. Then it is time to just sit back and enjoy the experience.

Find out more information about 46 TV’s?

If you are planning for a new, large, flat screen or plasma Samsung television, wall mounted with matching brackets, don’t ruin that installation by leaving your cables and cords hanging down the wall.

There are a number of styles to choose from when you buy your TV brackets for your Samsung, so make sure you pick one that has a place to hide them.

If you have already made that mistake, there are other options. You could run the power cable behind the wall, though that goes against most building codes, so it isn’t a very good idea. You’d have to hire an electrician to put in an outlet behind the television. Or you could pool the cords on the floor, with a planter or something to hide them, which contradicts the reason to mount it on the wall, doesn’t it?

If you aren’t sure you want to use TV wall brackets, or where is the perfect place to put them, try hanging a picture of a similar size on your walls in various places until you find a comfortable spot. Use masking tape to put the picture up…no sense in marking up your walls. Leave it up there until you are sure it is where you want it. Your wall should have some room on each side of the television, for speakers or art work.

If you chose tilt and swivel wall mounts, you will be able to do some adjusting after it is installed, but you need to consider where you will be sitting, or if in your bedroom, where you head will be when you are watching the TV. Also consider reflection from windows, though some of that can be averted by tilting and swiveling the set.

In a living room or family room, where you usually are seated to watch, you can centre the television height at your tallest family member’s eye level, or install the bottom of the flat screen at eye level with the top closer to your standing height.

As far as installation goes, it’s a two man job, and will take 2-4 hours for a do-it-yourself person. Make certain you thoroughly understand how your TV wall mount works, where it should go, and other pertinent information before you begin installing. Don’t rush…and don’t even start, if you have any questions at all. You will feel much better if you arrange for professional installation of your TV brackets if you are at all unsure.

Visit us at http://www.tv-wall-brackets.co.uk/ for more information.

A TV wall mount installation can be quite easy if you follow some of the guidelines available. Installing your television on the wall can be achieved in simple ways. Below are some of the tips that will help you do a good job of it:

The first thing that you will need to find is a mounting bracket. Basically, there are three types of brackets available on the market, such as the flat wall mounts, tilting wall mounts, and articulating wall mounts. Find their uses and characteristics, and see the appropriate one for your TV. Additionally, look for your user manual to see the type of mounting brackets that the manufacturer suggests. Make sure that the brackets you choose will be capable of holding the full weight of your television.

Before setting your screen, make sure to pick the right location. It can be frustrating if you have to change the locations every so often in case you don’t find it comfortable enough, as the process is time-consuming and may damage your walls. To know if it is the appropriate location for your television, try to sit down on your sofa and imagine the height appropriate for the TV. Ensure that your TV wall mount installation is set on a level that is not too high and is comfortable for your viewing experience. Also, ensure that it is near any power or cable outlets, and there isn’t anything that’ll block your view of the screen.

It is also important that you locate the studs first before installing your device. Locating the studs will help secure your TV, and it will provide support to its weight. Additionally, it will reduce the damage that may be done on your walls, and it will secure your TV in place if there are any mild earthquakes down the road. Lastly, find the rails attaching to the TVs, and fit them to the mounting brackets. Locate the studs and mark the location where you will be using your power drill. Secure the mounting brackets and make sure that they are set firmly before installing your television.

One of the best types of mounting devices is the corner TV mount. Learn more about installing your TV using this or another bracket type by reading the articles at TV mounting brackets.

If you want the most portable and easy-to-use device to play music on, you will need an mp3 player and some music stored as mp3 music files. Not only is this the technology that will replace other music players soon, but it is the most advanced way to play music. It’s also so easy to download music from the Internet in mp3 format that you’ll never have to go to a record store again once you have an mp3 player.

MP3 technology is easy to use, but there are a few differences between this and other music technologies. An mp3 player is a digital audio player that organizes and stores mp3 music files, and of course plays them as well. An mp3 player is a more common name for a digital audio player. These players can play other types of files, which are often associated with a brand. Windows Media Audio, Advanced Audio Coding and mp3 music files can be played on these efficient audio players.

There are various other music download formats you may find other than mp3 music files, such as Janus and Fairplay, which are part of some subscription-based music download sites. There are other varieties of patent-free file formats, as well.

Three different types of mp3 players can be found on the market. Flash players are digital audio devices that hold mp3 music files and other file formats on internal or external media such as memory cards. These have storage capacity ranging from 128 megabytes to 8 gigabytes, which is smaller than some other mp3 players. The new iPod Nano would be included in this category, for example. Flash mp3 players can be updates with additional memory, though. These types of mp3 players can often be integrated into USB keydrives, and are very resilient players.

Hard drive mp3 players, or digital jukeboxes, are digital audio players that read mp3 music files from a hard drive. This type of mp3 player has a higher capacity than the flash player; generally from 1.5 gigabytes to 160 gigabytes. This allows people to transfer entire music collections they have on CD to mp3 music files and store them in one digital audio player. Consumers can add downloadable music from various commercial web sites and free music download services as well. There are also hard drive players for video and picture files. These can also be just as portable as the smaller flash players, just slightly bigger. Popular hard drive mp3 players include the Apple iPod, Creative Zen and Microsoft Zune are examples of popular digital jukeboxes.

The last type of mp3 player is the mp3 CD player. These play regular CDs you buy at the store as well as CDs with mp3 music files and other types of downloadable music files. It’s easy to transfer music downloads to CD format. It’s also easy to transfer your CDs into mp3 music files, so you don’t have to worry about your old music collections aver being outdated formats.

MP3 technology is the music format of today, and should remain the top audio technology for quite some time. New gadgets and improved quality should be the only changes to mp3 technology in the near future.
